Forest Protection Division
Introduction
The Division of Forest Protection conducts research to safeguard forest ecosystems from insect pests, diseases, and other biotic stresses that threaten tree health, biodiversity, and ecosystem stability, particularly in arid and semi-arid regions. The division focuses on developing sustainable, eco-friendly, and science-based technologies for forest protection through integrated pest and disease management, biological control, biofertilizers, and biopesticides. Research encompasses the identification, taxonomy, molecular characterization, bio-ecology, biodiversity assessment, and management of economically important forest pests and pathogens. The division also undertakes studies on insect pollinators, beneficial microorganisms, soil biodiversity, forest health, and ecosystem resilience. Advanced tools such as molecular diagnostics, ecological niche modelling, and species distribution analysis are used to predict pest and disease dynamics under changing climatic conditions. Through multidisciplinary research and innovative technologies, the division aims to enhance forest productivity, conserve biodiversity, strengthen ecosystem resilience, and promote sustainable forestry practices for long-term environmental and socio-economic benefits.
Objectives
1. Identification, characterization, and monitoring of forest pests, diseases, pollinators, and beneficial organisms.
2. Development of sustainable forest protection technologies through Integrated Pest Management (IPM), biological control, and biopesticides.
3. Improvement of soil health and forest productivity through biofertilizer interventions.
4. Application of advanced scientific tools for biodiversity conservation and climate-resilient forest management.
